Wraparound Care for the Whole Person

Every program at Michael's House is designed around one conviction: that healing is possible, independence is achievable, and no young person should have to face adulthood alone.

Trauma-Informed. Spirit-Led. Whole-Person Care.

At Michael's House, we understand that youth aging out of foster care carry wounds that go far deeper than housing instability. They carry the weight of broken trust, interrupted development, and a world that has often failed them. Our programs are not a checklist — they are a covenant.

Every service we provide is rooted in trauma-informed principles, meaning we meet each young person where they are — with patience, consistency, and unconditional care. We address physical safety, emotional healing, spiritual growth, and practical preparation for independence, all under one roof.

Safe Residential Care

A home, not just a house.

The foundation of everything we do is a safe, stable place to sleep, eat, and breathe. Our residential program provides short-term emergency housing for youth in the critical hours and days following removal from a foster care facility — the window when young people are most vulnerable to exploitation, trafficking, and homelessness.

But we offer more than a roof. Our home is warm, structured, and filled with the kind of consistent care that many of our residents have never experienced. Every resident is welcomed with dignity, given their own space, and surrounded by staff who are trained to respond to trauma with compassion rather than control.

  • 24/7 staffed, trauma-informed environment
  • Safe, private sleeping quarters
  • Nutritious meals and household stability
  • Bridge housing between crisis and long-term placement

Life Skills & Employment Readiness

Practical tools for a self-sufficient life.

Many youth aging out of foster care have never been taught the basic rhythms of adult life — how to cook a meal, manage a budget, open a bank account, or navigate a job interview. Our life skills program fills those gaps with hands-on, practical training delivered in a supportive, non-judgmental environment.

From financial literacy to resume writing, from grocery shopping to conflict resolution, we walk alongside each resident as they build the confidence and competence to live independently. Our employment readiness track connects youth with vocational training, job placement support, and workplace mentorship.

  • Financial literacy and budgeting
  • Cooking, nutrition, and household management
  • Resume writing and job interview preparation
  • Vocational training and employment placement support

Education Support

Every door to the future starts with learning.

Educational disruption is one of the most common and damaging consequences of foster care instability. Many of our residents have changed schools multiple times, fallen behind academically, or dropped out entirely. Our education support program meets each young person at their current level and helps them chart a path forward.

We provide tutoring, GED preparation, college application guidance, and connections to scholarship resources. For those pursuing vocational pathways, we offer career exploration and technical training referrals. Our goal is not just academic achievement — it is the restoration of a young person's belief that their future is worth investing in.

  • One-on-one tutoring and academic support
  • GED preparation and testing assistance
  • College application and scholarship guidance
  • Vocational and career pathway planning

Mental Health Support

Healing is not optional — it is the mission.

Trauma does not resolve on its own. Without intentional, professional support, the wounds of abuse, neglect, and instability follow young people into adulthood — shaping their relationships, their choices, and their sense of self. Our mental health program provides access to licensed counselors and trauma-informed therapists who specialize in working with youth from the foster care system.

We believe that emotional healing is not a luxury — it is a prerequisite for everything else we offer. A young person cannot learn life skills, hold a job, or build relationships if they are still fighting the battles of their past alone. We walk alongside each resident in that fight.

  • Individual counseling with licensed therapists
  • Trauma-informed care framework across all programs
  • Group support and peer connection
  • Crisis intervention and stabilization support

Chaplain Services

The Spirit that started this work is woven into every part of it.

Michael's House is a Spirit-led calling. From the very beginning, faith has been at the center of who we are and how we serve. Our chaplain services provide spiritual care, pastoral support, and faith-based mentorship for residents who are open to it — always offered freely, never imposed.

For many of our residents, the wounds they carry are not only emotional — they are spiritual. They have been told they are worthless, unwanted, and forgotten. Our chaplains speak a different truth: that they are known, loved, and created with purpose. That truth, received and believed, changes everything.

  • One-on-one pastoral care and spiritual mentorship
  • Faith-based support for healing and identity
  • Prayer, Scripture, and spiritual formation
  • Connection to local faith communities

Our Approach

Trauma-Informed Care: What It Means in Practice

Trauma-informed care is not a program — it is a lens through which we see every interaction, every policy, and every relationship at Michael's House. It means we understand that behavior is communication, that trust must be earned slowly and consistently, and that safety — physical, emotional, and relational — is the prerequisite for everything else.

01

Safety First

Every environment, interaction, and policy is designed to communicate one message: you are safe here.

02

Trustworthiness

We do what we say we will do. Consistency and follow-through are how we rebuild trust that has been broken.

03

Peer Support

Shared experience is powerful. We create space for residents to support one another in their healing journeys.

04

Empowerment

We give voice and choice back to young people who have had both taken from them. Their input shapes their care.

Help Us Expand What's Possible
